Minor Characters are characters who aren't in the game enough to warrant a new page, either due to only being mentioned a few times, or because their appearance in the game is minor, only appearing as either a background character, or once throughout the entire game.
Borowski Family Members[]
Anselm Borowski[]
Anselm Borowski was, as Mae described "(her) great-great-uncle or something". Not much is known about him, other than that he fought during what was presumably World War Ⅱ. Given that his name was on a memorial, he did not survive the conflict. According to Mae, he was doomed from the start because of his name.
Grandmama Borowski[]
Grandmama Borowski was Mae's Grandmother, Stan Borowski's mother, and Mae's Granddad's late wife. Little is known about Grandmama, besides her being a devout churchgoer and believer of the Church of the First Coalesce and it's teachings. She had many pictures of the Churches saints on her wall prior to her death.
Her relationship with her family is never explored, although it can be implied that her marriage with Mae's Grandfather was at least rocky. She may also be one of the reasons why Mae went to afterschool churchgoing events, being a devout herself.
She is confirmed to be deceased by Mae Borowski. Cut content implies there was going to be a doodle of her that was scrapped.
Delaney Family Members[]
Mr and Mrs. Delaney were the parents of Angus Delaney and his unnamed older brother. They would frequently abuse Angus, either by beating him, starving him, or locking him in the pantry.
Mr. Delaney[]
Mr. Delaney used to work in the mines with Stan Borowski, and the two would sometimes drink together before Stan quit. He was the more physically abusive of the two towards Angus. At some point, Mr. Delaney left his family and the town, and although he is alive, Angus has no interest in knowing him.
Mrs. Delaney[]
Mrs. Delaney lives alone, and the two Delaney children sometimes visit her, although only when Angus' brother is in town. Angus feels she was the worse abuser, being the one to starve and lock him in the pantry. Her actions are also responsible for Angus' stoic atheistic beliefs.
Unnamed Elder Delaney Child[]
The unnamed elder Delaney child is in the military service, and occasionally visits his family when off duty. We do not know if the elder child was abused, though it is implied that he did go through some abuse, based on his distance and reluctance to visit his mother.
Cult Members[]
The Cult is a mysterious, anonymous group that worships the god-like creature, the Black Goat. It was founded by Ed Skudder.
Lurv[]
Lurv was one of the cult members. Not much is known about him, other than that he is a husband to a woman named Jeanie, and father to multiple daughters.
He left an arm behind the first time he kidnapped someone, and this lead to him being punished. He later ended up beneath a rock. Whether this was part of his punishment is unknown, and he had his leg torn off to free him.
His ultimate fate is unknown, though it is presumed he is deceased, sacrificed by the very cult he supported.
Rick, Dave and Benny[]
Rick, Dave and Benny were cultists and 'friends' with Lurv, as he called out to them because they "knew him". Nothing is known about these three other than that they are cult members.
Everything going forward is CUT CONTENT, and as such, should be taken as non-canon to the Night in the Wood story:
There appears to be unused content featuring Rick, such as an unused sprite in the Sprite files, as well as large amount of unused dialogue in the Underhill.yarn file (file for the game's dialogue) that paints a better picture of who he is.
Mae: Hello? Are you dead?
Mae: Did you get run over? Rick: Nah kid I’m just fixin' 'er up. Mae: Isn't it dangerous to be under a car on a hill? Rick: I do not fear death, kid. Mae: Adult. Rick: Death fears me. Mae: yeah ok but Rick: I'll drive this car right over the grim reaper. Mae: ok. Mae: Do you live here or something? Rick: Yeah kid, Rekkage Manor is right behind you. Mae: Adult. Mae: Wait a sec- are you Rick Rekkage? Mae: Like, The Creeping Deadlies Rick Rekkage? Rick: Yeah kid. I’m him. He’s me. Mae: How’s the band? Rick: Great. Playin' out. Free beer. Rick: Stop by the bar some night and see us! Mae: I’m not 21 yet. Rick: Aw don't worry kid. You'll be a real person soon. Mae: Adu- Mae: whatever. |
In the cut dialogue, Rick, going by Rick Rekkage, is an adult who typically undermines Mae's adulthood, often disregarding her insistence on being an adult, even at one point calling her "[not] a real person" due to her not being 21. He plays in a band called The Creeping Deadlies , often playing at the Smelter's bar, something that gets him and his bandmates free beer.
His first cut appearance is presumably in the Underhill (as his dialogue is featured in the Underhill.yarn file), working on his run down car. Mae tells him it's dangerous, which Rick disregards, stating that he's not afraid of death.
Whether this is the same Rick as the cultist is unknown, however it is implied in the cut content.
Rick's role in the game seems to have been cut, and effectively replaced by the Street-Light Worker (read more about him at the bottom of this page).
NPCs Tied to the Cult[]
Here is a list of NPCs who are not members of the Cult, but are instead directly tied to the cult in some way, be it victims or otherwise.
Jim Dorney[]
Jim Dorney was a miner who worked in the Possum Springs Coal Mines some 20 years ago, prior to the game's events, and one of Ed Skudder's co-workers, prior to the coal mine's closure. He and Ed came down in search of any minerals that may have gone missed by any previous crews.
While the two were searching, they ran into a large pit; a sinkhole formed due to heavy mining in the area, described as 'the hole at the end of everything. Unfortunately, Jim fell in before the two could spot it, and, according to the cult, never hit the bottom. Jim, whether mortally injured or deceased, did not answers Ed Skudder's calls.
His sudden death can perhaps be described as the catalyst for Ed Skudder's choice to form the cult, alongside the supposed Black Goat that answered Ed's calls in Jim's place. His death can also be considered the first 'sacrifice' to the Black Goat, although the cult itself did not form until after his death.
However, since Jim Dorney is not capable of corroborating the story Ed Skudder, and therefore the cult, tells, that lead up to his untimely death, it is impossible to verify if any of what Ed stated actually occurred, or if Ed told this story to simply exploit his fellow ex-miners into joining his death cult. His very existence may be up for question.
Harfest Kid[]
Harfest Kid was (presumably) a teenage Bear of unknown gender, who Mae witnesses Eide subduing/killing, before slinging the body over his shoulder and running off. Mae appears to be the only person who witnessed the kidnapping, as neither Aunt Molly nor the gang seem to be aware of it, and question whether it actually happened. This skepticism is mostly because of the way Mae describes the kidnapping; that of someone being kidnapped by a ghost.
One of the tunnel teens mention knowing someone who went missing; describing her as not being online since Harfest, If this is the same individual, then Harfest Kid is a female and does not live in Possum Springs.
Harfest Kid is presumed to have been 'sacrificed' by the cult, and is likely deceased.
Employed / Working NPCs[]
Here is a general list of every minor Working NPC throughout Night in the Woods.
Possum Springs Workers[]
Possum Springs Workers are Minor NPCs seen working in Possum Springs.
Christine[]
Christine, while never seen in game, is the manager of the Snack Falcon in Possum Springs. Not much is known about her, other than the fact that she is completely unable to control Gregg, seemingly her only employee, as he leaves whenever he wishes and breaks their supply of lightbulbs.
It's implied that, despite the need for jobs in Possum Springs, Christine isn't able to replace Gregg, or hire more employees, due to a lack of interest.
Video Outpost "Too" Nightshift Employee[]
In Part 1 when Mae looks for Angus to fix her computer, a light brown, female deer with turquoise eyes will be found at the counter instead. All of her replies will always be in a form of a question, something that Mae remarks upon. She explains that Angus works day shift and that she only came in early that day.
She works the nightshift as she is at home with her baby during the day until her mom gets home from work. She also quite likes working at Video Outpost "Too", spending the day watching movies, eating candy, and meeting cute guys.
On the second day of Part 2, she can be seen at the counter again as Angus is out of town. She will have no additional dialog.
Trolleyside News Manager[]
The Pierogi Stall Manager is an orange dog with orange eyes who manages the Trolleyside News, a stand that is located in the trolley station of Possum Springs.
When Mae talks to him, he calls her a thief, and an argument ensures, ending with Mae being banned from buying from the stall.
Despite being the stall manager, he also appears to be the stall cook, constantly cooking with a frying pan, and sole employee. In the Weird Autumn update, Miss Rosa can often be seen resting next to the Trolleyside News, though the two never directly interact.
Librarian[]
Librarian is a female bear who works as the front desk receptionist at the Possum Springs Library.
She is a bored red-furred bear, wearing a black teardrop shaped glasses, a navy blue shirt, that is partially covered by a brown-green long-sleeved sweater. Her sprite does not have a lower half.
She mentions working alongside an un-seen employee named Larry.
Street-Light Worker[]
Street-Light Worker, known as Pole Worker in the game files, is a male virginia opossum that is seen working on a street-light in Possum Spring's town center. He wears a construction hat and vest, a grey mid-sleeved shirt, dark-blue jeans, and brown work boots.
His general attitude is that of a disgruntled middle aged worker, and is shown to demean and belittle teenagers and children, including Mae (despite her being an adult).
There exists an un-used version of his sprite without his sunglasses, in which his eyes are seen to be red.
Other Workers[]
Other Workers are Minor NPCs seen working at a location outside of Possum Springs.
Colin[]
Colin is Mr. Chazokov's son, who works at a university outside of Possum Springs, though from time to time visits his father in Possum Springs. Him and his father go to Miller's for karaoke every two weeks. Selmers seems to have a superficial crush on him.
The only physical details we know about Colin is that he's "Hot as hell", though it's presumed that he is a bear like his father.
URevolution Store Clerk[]
The URevolution store clerk is seen during one of Bea's optional hang-out sessions, working at the Fort Lucenne Mall, in Fort Lucenne.
She is a moody red bear with two gauge earrings and teal eyes. She wears a long-sleeved, dark-blue DPP shirt and has three tufts of hair on the top of her head. Her sprite does not have a lower half.
She mentions during distracting her to be dating Dennis, the ex-husband of Selmers. She was most likely unaware that he and Selmers had been divorced in the past.
Judge Janice[]
Judge Janice is a TV personality, and appears to be based on the TV host 'Judy Sheindlin'. Much like her real life counterpart, Judge Janice is described as a woman who takes no bullshit and, presumably, runs a reality TV show similar to that of 'Judge Judy'.
Her first mention is by Gregg while having a conversation with Mae, post hang-out with Bea. Her second and only physical appearance in-game is on the TV located in the Warton family home, watched by Germ's Gramma.
Judge Janice is an orange fox with black eyes, light purple make-up and a black judge uniform.
Judge Janice is, likely due to her status as a minor character, the only canonical character (character to conically exist pre-update) to be mentioned pre-Weird Autumn update, that was later added post-update.
Donut Wolf Cashier[]
The unnamed Donut Wolf Cashier is introduced during Gregg's final friendship quest, legends, manning the cashier at Donut Wolf.
He is a somewhat robotic blue bear, seen wearing black-rimmed glasses, an orange long-sleeved shirt underneath a white apron, and a small white chef's hat.
Throughout his interaction with Mae, Gregg, and Angus, he sticks heavily to his Donut Wolf cashier script, asking what kind of donuts they want to order, and acting generally polite to his customers. He ignores the air of awkwardness that's fallen the trio, as well as the story Mae says, depending on which donut flavor you choose.
Possum Spring Cemetery NPCs[]
Possum Springs Cemetery is a cemetery where many of Possum Springs residents are buried, including Bea's mother. Mae can visit here along with Bea to investigate her ghost in Part 3.
Here is a list of every minor NPC that can be found at the Possum Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Santello[]
Bea's Mother was a crocodile living in Possum Springs with her family. She maintained a good relationship with both her daughter and husband, and this continued until her death from cancer. Most of her belongings were either given to Bea or presumably sold. Her husband had a mental breakdown afterwards and her remaining family was forced to move. She is buried in the Possum Springs Cemetery, and Bea occasionally visits her grave.
Her death and gravestone presumably inspired Bea's current avatar.
Gravedigger[]
The Gravedigger is a grey bear and like the name suggests, is a gravedigger, tender, and groundskeeper to the Possum Springs Cemetery. He was added in the Weird Autumn update.
Mae meets the Gravedigger while investigating for Ghosts with Bea. Gravedigger appears to be the only grave tender that works for the Possum Springs Cemetery.
The Gravedigger is a middle-aged dark-grey bear, has a white mustache that covers his mouth, wearing a long-sleeved red button up plaid shirt, and light-brown overalls with brown shoes. He also has dark brown oval glasses, and has a rake in his left hand.
His conversation with Mae is short and sweet; The two talk about ghosts, whether he finds his job scary (he does not), and Mae possibly becoming a gravedigger herself.
He is also a wedding DJ on the side. Mae draws a doodle of him after your conversation with him is finished.
Rose, Brad Boyson, and Catherine Fishe[]
Rose, Brad Boyson, and Catherine Fishe are deceased Possum Spring residents, buried at the Possum Spring Cemetery. Their tombstones can be interacted with by Mae during her ghost investigation with Bea in Act 3. Mae has to clean off their tombstones from falling leaves in order to interact with them.
Rose's tombstone has the Cross-esque design the Church of the First Coalesce for worship; a circle with an 8-sides star inside. Her plaque reads: "Aged 95 Years". Mae thinks Rose lived a long life.
Brad Boyson has a etched bicycle design on their tombstone. He has no plaque. Mae jokes about how the only thing she knows about Brad, is that he liked bicycles.
Catherine Fishe has no design on her tombstone. Her plaque reads: "Taken By Flu, 14 Years Old". Mae thinks Catherine was taken too early.
All three tombstones are light-grey, show signs of age, and all have slight changes in their designs; Rose's tombstone is rectangular, Brad's has décor on top of the tombstone, and Catherine's has a triangular taper.
Possum Springs Residents[]
Possum Springs Residents, like the name suggests, are Minor Characters who are seen living inside Possum Springs.
Andy Cullen[]
Though not seen in the game, Andy Cullen played a huge role in Mae's life. Andy was the victim of the incident when Mae had an episode of derealization. It's been stated multiple times throughout the game that Mae did not have anything against Andy, but that he was just in a bad place at a bad time. Mae gets her nickname 'Killer', because of this situation.
Andy Cullen was a baseball player, playing against Mae Borowski's team. After Mae beat him, Andy was sent to the hospital due to serious injuries. Mae's parents had to pay Andy Cullen's outstanding medical bills due to the injuries he sustained, causing a spiral affect of financial issues for the Borowski's, that they deal with to this day.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartley[]
Mr. and Mrs. Hartley were the parents of Casey Hartley. After his disappearance they covered Possum Springs in missing person posters as they searched for their son. Unbeknownst to them, Casey was captured and sacrificed by the Cult, his deathplace in the town's old mines.
Not much is known about Mr. and Mrs. Hartley, but since Casey's posters remain up throughout the events of Night in The Woods, it can be assumed that they have never given up hope, and continue to search for him to this day.
At the end of the game, the band briefly question whether they should tell Mr. and Mrs. Hartley about Casey's death and current whereabouts, though the idea is quickly shot down, due to the bizarre and unbelievable story that leads up to it.
Newspaper Guy[]
Newspaper Guy is an often sarcastic bird that Mae can interact with while parkouring on top of the Social Security Administration Office / Pastabilities building.
He is a tired looking red bird, wearing a dark grey dress shirt and blue pants. Newspaper Guy is always seen reading the daily news, something Mae can ask about during their conversations.
Much like Selmers' and Mr. Chazokov's neighbor Varney, he frequently asks Mae to get off his property and leave him alone.
Angry Window Bird[]
Angry Window Bird is, like the name suggests, an angry bird of unknown gender who yells at Mae whenever she passes their apartment window, located right beside the headless Arnold A. Applebalm statue in Town Proper. They are neighbors with Barking Dog.
They are an angry dark green bird, with a bright yellow beak and black circular glasses. They have three round tufts of hair on their head, and are seen wearing a red long sleeved dress shirt, and black pants.
Much like Newspaper Guy and Varney, Angry Window Bird screams for Mae to get away from their property, something Mae herself ignores.
Barking Dog[]
Barking Dog, known as Window Dog in the files, is a dog seen barking at Mae through the window of the apartment they reside in, located right in Town Proper. They are neighbors with Angry Window Bird.
They appear to be a medium sized domestic short-hair dog of unknown breed and gender, their fur color is dark blue, paw pads and nose are black, and their eye color appears to be the same color as their fur.
Their barking animation is triggered when Mae tightropes the powerlines near the window of their apartment.
Historical Possum Springs NPCs[]
Historical Possum Springs NPCs are, like the name suggests, Minor Characters with historical importance to the titular town.
Arnold A. Applebaum[]
Arnold Applebaum was the owner of the Mining company many years prior to the start of the game. He is described by Stan Borowski as a rich crook who hated the idea of his workers unionizing. He funded a library in Maple Street's Underhill, that eventually turned into the apartment complex Bea and Mr. Santello would move into.
Although he is never seen in-game, multiple statues of his likeness are spread throughout many of the games' buildings. His plaque reads: "Arnold A. Applebaum: A father to all workers, a grandfather to their children, a great-grandfather to those children's children... Erected 1910"
Mae thinks it's creepy for there to be a statue of him just outside of Bea's apartment complex window. She draws a doodle of Arnold pestering Bea outside of her window.
There is a headless version of Arnold's statue in Town Proper.
Possum Springs' Mayor[]
Possum Springs' Mayor is, like the name implies, the current running Mayor of Possum Springs.
Not much is known about the Mayor's personality, history, or even how they run the town they preside in. They only physically appear once in-game, seen waving at the Possum Spring residents who attended the Harfest parade.
They appear to be a cat / bear of unknown gender, they have a heavyset build, and are seen wearing a hat with a visor.
Their (presumed) responsibilities for Possum Springs are primarily to preside at council meetings and to act as head of the city for ceremonial purposes and for purposes of military law. The mayor votes as a councilmember and does not have any veto power. They presumably work with the city council.
Bonfire Party NPCs[]
Bonfire Party NPCs are minor characters who appear during the bonfire party.
Cole's Friend[]
Cole's Friend, known as Clearing Party Guy in-files, is a minor background character who is only seen hanging out with Cole at the bonfire party.
Little to nothing is known about this character. Other than presumably going to the bonfire party much like many of the other characters, being Cole's friend, and having an interest in the cheap beer provided at the party.
He is a brown owl, with orange/brown eyes and a yellow beak. he wears a green coat and black undershirt, teal pants and black boots. He wears a green and white hat capped hat on his head, and holds a red plastic cup full of alcohol.
His role during the bonfire party scene is incredibly minor, not having any speaking lines nor interactions with Mae. He is seen chatting with Cole next to the bonfire up until Mae's drunk freak-out scene, where he stands next to Bea and Cole, watching as a drunk Mae says her slurred speech.
- Cole's Friend bares a striking resemblance to Rick, the owl party-goer at Jackie's college party. The two also share the same head sprite, go to college, frequent college parties, and seem to know Jackie. Whether the two are the same character is unconfirmed.
Douchebag Guitar Player[]
Douchebag Guitar Player is a male crocodile who appears at the forest party that Mae and her friends go to. His nickname comes from Gregg and Mae, who call him a douchebag for his guitar tunes.
He has a dark red beanie on top his head, red eyes, a white under-shirt with a green flannel shirt, a blueish-green pair of pants, and a basic brown acoustic guitar which he strums.
He plays a basic repeating guitar tune in the background, and occasionally tunes his guitar strings.
