Godtender Brown is a devout believer in the Forest God, tasked with taking care of their health, and is introduced in the Lost Constellation supplemental game.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Godtender Brown is a large brown bear, wearing ornate devout clothing. He wears a green and brown decorated robe, with leaves, trees, red berries, and grey stars patterned throughout the outfit. his sleeves are long and black, with dark green cuffs, black pants and boots. He wears a Clover shaped hat that covers his ears, and with a blue tree design in the center.

He is blindfolded, his blindfold having a yellow eye design in the center. Because of this blindfold, he cannot see.

Personality[]

Brown is a kind but blindly devoted figure, extremely loyal to his Forest God, and is shown to follow his God's rules very strictly. However, he is also very easily tricked, believing Adina Astra to be an Empress, allowing her to pass through and visit the Forest God for the first time. He appears friendly towards Adina, and confides in his worry that the Forest God is sick, and may be dying. He deeply worries for his god's health, afraid a visitor may harm the Forest God. He is not afraid to hold a conversation with strangers, alluding towards his loneliness.

Despite being the guard to his god, he is deathly afraid of ghosts, as shown when Adina makes up the story of how Clancy, her fake Archbishop dog, is also a ghost, whilst trying to trick the Godtender to let her see the Forest God.

After his Forest God dies, Godtender Brown remains loyal yet delusional, believing that the God is merely resting. He remains at his post, guarding the empty entrance to his God's resting place.

Background[]

Prior to Lost Constellation, Godfather Brown attended Godtender classes at his school and played the Glundihorn, a horn cursed with eventual death for those who play the instrument, as well as those who hear the instrument played.

At some point after his classes, he becomes the Forest God's loyal Godtender, and swears to protect and take care of his God. Unbeknownst to Godtender Brown, he is tending to a false god.

A pair of twins flee to the Forest, however, the elder of the two dies in part to the younger's newfound desire to "survive" in the shelter of the hollow, and becomes the Huncher. Because of her will to survive, she gets into a conflict with the Forest God, and a battle rages between the two for centuries, until they finally reached a peace. Unbeknownst to Godtender Brown and the Forest God, the Huncher does not in fact back down, and poisons the Forest God with the help of the Kid, causing him to grow weaker and begin to die.

Lost Constellation[]

Godtender Browns guards the God's Holy Mountain and judges whether someone is allowed to pass through—the criteria being that only royalty are allowed to see the Forest God. Being blind, the Godtender could only hear their voices, which allowed Adina Astra to trick him by creating several haunted snowmen to pretend to be her entourage. Before Adina can enter the cave, Godtender Brown stops her, and confides in her that his god is dying. Baffled, Adina asks how this could be the case; a god can't die. Godtender Brown is just as confused, yet remains loyal nevertheless, and blames the conflict with the Huncher to be the reason for his God's sickness.

Godtender Brown gives Adina Astra his blessing to pass through the Forest, before teleporting her into said Forest. But not before warning her of the Huncher's wickedness. As Adina explores the Forest, she comes across the Huncher's Hollow; a cabin deep in the winding woods that she and the Kid reside in. As Adina steals the Huncher's prized belongings, the Kid confides in her that she was the individual that truly poisoned the Forest God.

Adina races back to Godtender Brown, and before she can tell him the true reason why he is dying, the Godtender instead ushers her into the cave to tell the God himself. Speaking to the Forest God has Adina finding out that the God is no god, but a large owl who believes himself a god. The Forest God tells her that Godtender Brown is "worthless" and only good enough to "feed the forest", meaning the God possibly was seeking a way to kill Brown. Adina, angered by his hatred for Brown, threatens to not tell him the reason for his death if he doesn't promise Godtender Brown's safety. The Owl relents, and promises his safety, before Adina tells him of his poisoning, and inevitable death.

The Forest God dies shortly after Adina's visit, and Astra tells a now delusional Brown of his false god's death. Godtender Brown refused to believe her, but Adina just wishes Brown a happy Longest Night before leaving. Even then Brown refused to believe that the Forest God had truly gone, nor did he ever find out the Forest God was no real god, but an imposter.
