Chris and Rick are minor characters, introduced during Bea's final friendship quest, Proximity, at Jackie's college party. They are both students of College Town's local college.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Chris is a blue cat with white whiskers, and wears a black-rimmed glasses. He has on a dark grey sweater with a red and dark blue striped shirt underneath, black pants, and red shoes.
Rick is a brown owl with a yellow beak, seen wearing a grey and black jacket, with a grey shirt underneath that has a grey gradient circle design on it. He wears black pants and black shoes.
Personality[]
Chris is a confident, uptight, and social college student. He is well versed in indie movies such as Memento Mori, and isn't afraid to flirt with Bea, who he is notably interested by prior to Mae's interference. He appears to know his way around politics, and seems to like to flaunt his social status as a college student, looking down on others for going to college to form a career, rather than going for the sake of study. When Mae rudely calls Chris out on his mean attitude towards workers, Chris claims he's interned at his uncle's firm. Mae frequently calls him a spoiled rich kid, something he ignores.
When Chris finds out that Bea lives in Deep Hollow County, a two hour drive from College Town, he appears to taunt her by repeating the information to Rick. When Bea runs from the situation shortly after, he seems flabbergasted, but not interested in understanding the situation further.
Rick, compared to Chris, is the more mellow of the two. He appears to have somewhat of a similar personality to Mae, talking about subjects such as his previous house burning down, as though he has no filter. He appears to be much more awkward in social situations, not reading the flirtatiousness between Chris and Bea, much like Mae, however he isn't nearly as bad.
He appears to not know what Deep Hollow County or Possum Springs is, and is surprised and confused to find out that Bea doesn't actually go to their college.
Background[]
Chris and Rick enroll in College Town's local college prior to the game, and at one point befriend / become acquaintances to Jackie. Chris has an Uncle.
Chris majors in Political Science, and at some point interned at his Uncle's firm. it is unknown what Rick's major is, if he has one.
In spring prior to the start of Night in the Woods, Rick's previous house explodes in a freak accident caused by his dad trying to dig up the remains of a deceased family pet, which results in the death of another family pet.
Relationships:[]
The two appear to be good friends, seen mingling with each other prior to the conversation between Bea, Jackie, and Mae.
- Jackie: It is unknown what kind of relationship Chris and Rick have with Jackie, though it is presumed they were at least friendly acquaintances since they were invited to her party. During the conversation, Jackie tries in vain to get Mae to quit bothering Bea and Chris, in an attempt to get her friend to go out with Chris.
- Bea: Chris and Bea appear to frequently flirt with each other throughout their conversation, routinely ignoring Mae's pestering as they try to get to know each other. At one point of the conversation, Chris asks Bea out on an impromptu Pizza Date, something Bea quickly accepts. Once Chris and Rick find out that Bea doesn't actually go to their college, Chris' attention abruptly stops, replaced by confusion and awkwardness.
- Mae: Mae has a very negative look on the two, Chris in particular, viewing them as 'spoiled rich college kids'. Chris tries in vain to ignore Mae during his conversation with Bea, though Rick appears to be more interested in having a conversation with her.
Story[]
Chris and Rick are briefly seen in the background of the party, having a conversation with one another prior to having a conversation with Bea and Jackie. During the party, Jackie and Bea mention how the two men appear to be interested in chatting.
After Bea and Jackie are finished dancing on the dance floor, they part ways with Mae and head over to Chris and Rick to start a conversation. At some point, Bea lies about going to College Town's college, and Chris start getting flirtatious with her. Once Mae is finished having a conversation with Bombshell, she checks in on Bea and abruptly butts in on the conversation between Chris and Bea. Almost immediately Mae starts insulting Chris, implying that she sees through his uptight attitude. Throughout the conversation between Bea and Chris, Mae interjects with her own stories and details, sharing information like how her Grandpa passed away. Rick interjects his own story in a similar fashion.
Soon after Chris asks Bea out on a date at the local pizza place, Mae accidentally outs Bea as not actually going to their college, and instead works at the Ol' Pickaxe in Possum Springs. Chris and Rick are confused, and before the two could ask any more questions, Bea runs out of the party, shortly followed by Jackie and Mae, leaving the two confused and weirded out.
Trivia[]
- Rick shares the same head file and physical appearance as that of Cole's Friend, and though it is unconfirmed that they're the same character, it should be noted that both Cole's friend and Rick go to college, frequent college parties, and seem to know Jackie to a certain degree.
- If Rick and Cole's Friend are the same character, this would mark the second time Mae embarrasses herself in front of him.
- There's a running gag throughout the conversation that Mae constantly keeps referring to Chris with wrong names that start with C and are short.
- There is an unused character that resembles a fox found in the game's files who's name is also Rick.
- One of the Cultists is also named Rick.
