"What is your bird existence like?" — Mae at Bird
Bird, pet to the Borowski's, is a Minor Character residing on the second floor of the Borowski household. Bird is presumably a cardinal.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Bird is presumably a small red cardinal, with yellow legs and beak. Mae describes it as a "Trash Bird". They reside inside a small metal cage, with a single branch perch. At night time, their cage is covered by a red sheet with a polka-dotted design.
Relationship with Mae[]
Throughout the game Mae frequently makes it clear that she doesn't like the bird, referring to it as a "trash bird" on multiple occasions. There are instances where she wonders why it's even alive, who takes care of it, what it's thinking, and generally disregarding their existence besides to make fun of them.
Later in the game, Mae starts to relate to the feeling trapped, much like how the bird is always in their cage. She ponders whether she should let them free, but quickly decides against it. Cut content implies this was originally meant to be a mini-game, with Mae letting the bird free.
Story[]
The bird plays an extremely minor role in Night in the Woods, often being treated more as an object to interact with, than an actual character to talk to.
Bird sits on the second floor of the Borowski Household, next to Mae's parents' bedroom. During the day time, it's cage is without it's cover, and is interactable most of the time. At night time, it's covered and non-interactable.

- There is a cut mini-game that features the bird in it's cage. There is an option to observe the bird, but doing so does nothing. This mini-game is presumed to have been about Mae letting the bird out of it's cage.
